Due Date: Final Assessment Period Task: Working individually, students prepare a creative producing portfolio as a developed proposal for a future creative work. This could be a film, TV, animation, sound, digital online, game or media artwork in genres such as drama, comedy, documentary, lifestyle, experimental or other formats as approved. The portfolio will include a synopsis, outline and treatment of the intended project; as well as a detailed budget and schedule, and statements on audience, post production pathways, delivery platforms, legal and copyright issues, locations & locales, funding and business plan. Where relevant the portfolio may include descriptions of key characters, issues or themes, and visual support such as mood boards and the visual look and feel of the work or other relevant content. The creative producing portfolio acts as a highly developed proposal that focusses student creative concepts into feasible, realisable projects. It also must include a detailed impact distribution strategy. Length: The portfolio is 2500 words and will be submitted as a PDF (or PDFs) of all documents with links to video or other media within PDFs.

There is large amount of material required for your portfolio and to generate this to an industry professional standard you will research and write first drafts of portfolio components during the Modules in which they are covered, particularly in the week following the classes in which they are discussed. This will help you to keep on top of the workload and allow you to refine your creative portfolio material throughout the semester. For example, you will ideally start writing first drafts of a synopsis, outline and treatment of your project, along with draft statements on intended audience and delivery platforms, at the beginning of Module 2 when you have firmed up on your project idea and have studied developing story ideas at the end of Module 1. You will have developed a draft Finance Plan as an exercise following the class on Development, Funding and Finance in Week 3. This will be the first building block of your portfolio’s Finance Plan, which you can modify as you study related topics such as impact producing in Week 4, budgeting in Week 6 and marketing a distribution in Week 10. You would start researching and writing the first draft of the Impact Plan for your project following the class on impact producing in Week 4, while approaches to impact producing are fresh in your mind, and further develop the plan as you research and study more during the semester.
