Appendix of Evidence

Sample 1: Summer DSP: Critical Essay Title: My Early Journey as a Writer This essay was written the summer before my first year of college. It demonstrates my ability (back then) to integrate quotes, discuss evidence and draw conclusions. I think its really interesting to see what I expected to write in college and I am so pleased I was wrong.

Sample 2: Critical Essay Title: The Difference This essay was written out of class, so it has been revised; it demonstrates my ability to respond to feedback to improve a draft and to address an academic audience. This uses paragraphs as logical units to discuss evidence and draw conclusions. I demonstrate my ability to integrate outside sources into my paper to further prove my thesis. It is a clear example of my engagement in the writing process.

Document 1: Reading Tutorials (Critical Essay)
The comments and feedback from both my professor and my classmate at this reading tutorial
on my first draft were extremely helpful. They led me to completely changing the format of
my essay and I am really happy with the end result. This shows I can use feedback to improve
my argument from draft to draft, assignment to assignment.

Document 2: In-Class Writing/Final Reflection for Unit 4 This writing exercise served as the perfect pre-write for my final Critical Essay. I ended up using most of what I wrote in this exercise in my final essay as well.

Document 3: Excerpt from Unit 4 Essay Book (Quotes & Reflections)
I learned to collect information from the text as evidence and to reflect on personal experiences that
may be useful when writing the Critical Essay. This strategy has really worked for me in the essays I have
written in the last two semesters.

Document 4: Profile Essay Note-taker/Outline This prewriting exercise helped me gather my thoughts and organize all of the information I had collected before writing the first draft of my Profile Essay.

Document 5: Field Report
The Field Report was a vital piece of information when writing the Profile Essay, considering it
contained all of the information I gathered and would eventually use as evidence.
Document 6: Profile Essay
Shows my ability to articulate an awareness of and write according to rhetorical features of
texts, such as purpose, audience, context, and rhetorical appeals. It helped me use quotation
and summary to create context in my writing.

Document 7: Brainstorm and Outline for Self-Reflection Essay This prewriting exercise prepared me to write the draft of the essay you are reading today. Together they demonstrate my process, using reading and writing to prepare me to compose my own argument.
